Lok Deep Prakalpa was undertaken by Govt. of West Bengal to provide minimum electricity in the huts of down trodden people of West Bengal.

W.B.S.E.B. is a losing concern. Various endeavors are being taken to minimize the losses and such endeavors are being partly successful. With the introduction Electricity Act’ 2003 W.B.S.E.B. will be dismantled and restructuring of this organisation is under process by Govt. of West Bengal. Govt. of West Bengal has decided to manage both Generation and Transmission & Distribution of electricity under Govt. Sector. It is a challenge both to the people of West Bengal and employees of W.B.S.E.B., W.B.P.D.C.L. and D.P.L. whether they will be able to continue to electricity business mainly under state sector fighting back the challenges of private sectors. We are hopeful to meet the challenge successfully.

Generation of Electricity is now in excess in West Bengal and the excess Powers are exported to the other states of the country. But we have some shortfall in peak hour’s demand. We have another problem that we are not fully successful in generating quality electricity and this is mainly for we produce very little quantity of Hydro electricity and our transmission networks are not also up to the mark and to combat the problems.
